The Weirdest Excuse We Hear The Most

Multiple times a week when we are talking to potential clients here at Lakeland Health and Fitness, we hear something along the lines of “I’m going to come join you all once I get in shape”.

I’m going to repeat that again.  They’re going to join us AT OUR GYM when they’ve already GOTTEN IN SHAPE.

What???!?

All kidding aside, I get it.  People think of gyms as these places full of fit people, walking around looking at their perfectly toned body in the mirror.  They think of those jocks back in college who basically lived in the campus weight room. Or maybe they imagine those fitness influencers who seem to multiply daily on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.  

And so the idea that we have to be those people to start coming to the gym actually keeps us from, well…ever looking like them.

Maybe you’ve told yourself, “I’ll just start by doing some YouTube workouts at home” Or “I’ll start jogging three mornings a week”.  Here’s the issue– you’re missing two of the main reasons why coming to a gym like Lakeland Health and Fitness works so well and gets such amazing results for people.

First, you’re missing community and accountability.  When you show up here, whether you’re in a group fitness class or personal training, you’ve got a friendly coach there to motivate you to work hard.  You’ve got at least one person who expects you to be there, makes you feel welcome, and makes you want to come back again.  In group classes, you may even make some friends and come to enjoy the camaraderie with them.

In addition to that, you’re also missing the COACHING that we provide.  There’s a reason we don’t just offer access to equipment.  We know that providing a trained, certified, experienced coach ensures that you are going to be exercising with proper form, appropriate weights, and adequate intensity.  It enables you to get maximum results in the shortest amount of time without the risk of injury.

Big box gyms don’t want you to show up.  They want to sell you access to a lot of fancy equipment that they hope you won’t ever come use.  They’ll make their membership cheap enough that they hope you forget about that, too– and keep paying it every month. 

But here’s the thing– paying a little bit for nothing is still a worse deal than paying a lot for a transformational change.
